FROM UBER MOM TO UBER PET

We like to give you stories about the recipients of our handcycles. Recently we ran across these photos that included only this information – (1) it’s about a girl named Chrissy and (2) she lives in the African country of Malawi. If you’re thinking that’s not much of a story, you might be impressed with our sleuthing capabilities. With a high degree of certainty, we can add this:

Chrissy’s non-working legs were that way from birth or due to a childhood disease or accident. From that point on, her only means of transportation came through her mother carrying her. Maybe that wasn’t so difficult for mom when Chrissy was small, but by the time of this photo, it must have been back-breaking.

The reason we are able to give you more of the story here is because these situations are so common in Africa. Mothers of disabled children are literally saddled with their mobility needs.. Our newsletter stories most often focus on just the recipient of a PET handcycle, but sometimes, there is someone else equally blessed. Imagine the emotions of this mother as she sees her daughter finally able to move about without her exhausting help.
