UP FROM THE GROUND, DOWN TO BUSINESS

This is George, who at the age of 25 had his status changed from that of immobility and poverty to proud vehicle owner and business entrepreneur. To make that second part happen, our PET distributor in Kenya, Partners for Care, takes handcycle distribution an important step further beyond that important gift of mobility – they put recipients into businesses of their own. This is done through the additional gift of a cooler stocked with popsicles that they can sell to eager customers. That start-up stock is given with the understanding that restocking will then come from their earnings. Says George,”this cart gave me more than mobility, it restored my confidence. It isn’t just being able to get from one place to another now, it’s about moving forward with my life.”

Like most charitable organizations, Partners for Care understands the critical need to enable the staff and people they serve to become self-sustaining in their support. They have created businesses, such as the one producing thousands of bednets to prevent Malaria. We’re grateful to be partnering with this wonderful ministry founded by our good friend, Connie Cheren, who was with us at the annual conference of Mobility Worldwide affiliates earlier this month. Even though we here at PET FLORIDA take responsibility for just the production of our handcycles (given free), we appreciate the faithful way that PFC keeps us in the loop on their end of the ministry equation. We are so encouraged by reports like George’s, and we know you are, too.

MORE ABOUT PARTNERS FOR CARE

From time to time, we will be introducing our partnering distributors. These relationships are so vital to the success of our mission, and we’re pleased to bring you the story of Partners for Care as the first.

Partners for Care (PFC) was founded in 2007 by Connie Cheren, a social worker and nurse from Georgia whose heart was broken by the conditions affecting children she observed during her first trip to Kenya back then. Since that time, the mission she founded has blessed thousands of needy lives. Though we naturally identify PFC with handcycle distribution, they are involved in far more programs than that. When you look at the broad range of those, you have to wonder how all this could all have happened by someone with no paid staff stateside. As a committed Christian, you know where she directs the credit for it all:

Safe Water Back Packs / Computer Schools / Bed Net Production / Sewing Schools / Medical Clinic / Business StartupTraining and now, their own Handcycle Production to supplement deliveries received from us and other affiliates of Mobility Worldwide. (And in Connie’s “spare time”, she comes to mentor us in fundraising and promotion.) We encourage you to check her PFC website and subscribe to their newsletters: https://www.partnersforcare.org/
