EVER HEAR OF A GOGO DEAL?

(Better than a BOGO -- with this, it’s Get One, Get One more -- both free)

We’ve mentioned recently that this is a year of special anniversaries here at Penney Farms (100 years for our retirement community, 25 for Pet Florida.) As often happens when special dates like this roll around, we’ve been looking back through our PET archives to recall all that God has done here since our humble beginnings. This pic of a happy gathering in Bangladesh back in 2017 caught our attention because it shows two happy recipients of our handcycles. The note on the back of the photo indicated the recipients were from the same family, and we assume that those celebrating with them are family and friends – likely joined by the missionaries who coordinated the placements.

Question: That was nine years ago – can we assume that the handcycles shown here are still in use? While we aren’t able to keep CARFAX type records on our vehicles, we frequently receive reports of ones that have been in constant use even longer. So often, when visitors come to our shop and see (and sometimes even ride) our PET handcycles firsthand, they comment on how “beefy” they are (beefy = a technical term meaning “built for rugged duty”). They make conventional wheelchairs look like lightweight contenders in comparison.

We’ve all heard the phrase, “the gift that keeps on giving”, and what a perfect description that is for your donation. Years later, when you may have long forgotten your gift, somebody will still be remembering it every day as they continue to be blessed with the life-changing mobility you made possible.

MEET OUR YOUNGEST VOLUNTEERS

AMI/Kids is an alternative school near us, renowned for its outstanding record of training boys in the critical areas of discipline and leadership. In the spring of 2025, one of their teachers approached us, asking if we might be interested in having some of these students come to work with us in our shop. We really didn’t know what to expect, but felt it was worth a try. From day one, we were blown away with these kids – so polite, respectful and anxious to contribute (almost had us wondering what planet they were from). From that introduction, a group of them has continued to come back twice a month during our production seasons, not only assisting on their assigned jobs, but establishing relationships with our regulars. In the school’s recent graduation ceremony, we were gratified to hear such positive mentions of PET in some of their speeches. This is a classic win-win story. (God is the author of that concept, by the way – as His word tells us, we are blessed to bless others.)
